Sharjah's Shurooq has invested over Dh300 million in eco-tourism, creating the "Sharjah Collection" of seven retreats to capitalize on the growing "slow travel" trend. This initiative, comprising 154 luxury units, aligns with the global demand for wellness-focused travel, a market projected to exceed $1 trillion this year. The slow travel movement itself is experiencing a 10% annual growth, emphasizing tranquility, cultural immersion, and a deeper connection with destinations.
The Sharjah Collection offers diverse experiences across various landscapes. These include the Al Faya Retreat in the Mleiha desert, The Kingfisher Retreat in a coastal mangrove reserve, and the Moon Retreat in Mleiha National Park. Other options are the Al Badayer Retreat in the red dunes, Najd Al Meqsar in Khorfakkan's Wadi Wishi, and the Al Rayaheen Retreat in Khorfakkan.
A new addition to the collection, the Nomad eco-retreat, is set to launch in Kalba's mountain valleys near the Kalba Nature Reserve in Q4-2025. This retreat will feature 20 solar-powered luxury trailers designed for off-grid living, promoting digital disconnection and enhancing night-sky visibility. This strategic investment reflects Sharjah's commitment to sustainable tourism and its ability to leverage its diverse natural landscapes for hospitality projects.
