Sharjah's Legal Department Head, Dr. Mansour bin Nassar, clarified the Sharjah Rental Law's stance on landlord responsibility. Article 10 explicitly shields landlords from tenant-related fees, fines, and expenses, unless otherwise agreed upon in the rental contract. This ensures landlords are not held liable for the tenant's obligations.
Dr. bin Nassar emphasized the law's balanced approach, designed to protect the rights of both landlords and tenants fairly. The legislation is rooted in general legal principles and Islamic teachings, including the principle that individuals are not responsible for the mistakes of others.
He urged all relevant authorities, including the municipality and utility providers, to adhere strictly to the new law. The Sharjah Government’s Legal Department is available to provide clarification on any uncertainties or issues that may arise. This clarification was prompted by a radio caller who faced unexpected fines related to their tenant's salon business.
